I am a novice watch enthusiast on a limited budget. I purchased the Kato model and this has been one of my most expensive purchases to date. As a point of reference, I have several inexpensive quartz watches. In the realm of automatics, I have a Seiko 5 SRPD61 and an Orient Helios. I enjoy all these watches, but the Kato is the only one that has a sapphire crystal. Combined with a flat surface, it provides a beautiful window to view the workings below. I wind each watch each day and I have noticed that the Kato keeps the most accurate time throughout the week. The Seiko and the Orient run fast, gaining five minutes in a week or two. The Kato is almost spot-on! As a vegetarian, I would have appreciated a non-leather option for the band. However, the black band is comfortable and complements the watch dial perfectly. I have only worn this watch a few times, but I am very happy with it! It is meant to be a wearable piece of art as much as it is meant for telling time. As such, the time-telling aspect is sharing the billing with the kinetic art. It is not difficult to read, but sometimes I need more that a quick glance to determine the time. I do find myself thinking about the day ahead and if I have appointments and keeping a schedule is key, I may choose a watch that is a bit easier to read at a glance. On the other hand, it so enjoyable to look upon that it is perfectly suited for lifting the spirits or creating conversation at a social gathering.
Thank you David!
PS Have you considered a clock-version of these pieces of art?
